WHAT IS KIDNEY FAILURE

End stage kidney failure presenting as chronic irreversible failure of both kidneys to function, as a result of which regular renal dialysis is initiated or renal transplatation is carried out.

The kidney’s main function is to eliminate excess fluid and waste material from blood. The kidneys are situated at the back of the abdomen, below diaphragm, one eash side of the spine.

Kidney failure occurred when kidneys lose the filtering ability, and cause dangerous levels of fluid and waste accumulate in the body. People with kidney failure (end stage renal disease) need either dialysis or a kidney tranplant to stay alive. Diabetes Mellitus is one of most common cause of kidney failure.

Every year, 2,000 new end-stage cases occur. These require lifetime dialysis to sustain life. On average, dialysis is performed three times a week. As to date, about 15,000 people needed dialysis regularly.
